Ciudad Quesada lies a few
kilometers inland from the strip cost by Guardamar.
Urbanization, or what has become the little town, was
built by one man, Justo Quesada Samper. He started with
two empty hands and reluctance from the officials, but he
did not give up, and received his first building permit in
1973.
Ironically, the owners of the first house that was sold
demanded the sale canceled because there were no other
houses in the area. Today there are over 7000 homes here,
and they are now more expensive then in the surrounding
areas. Justo Quesada Samper has also built an 18 whole
golf course and a small airport in Quesada. There is an
area just inside the city gate where there are shops,
banks, restaurants and bars and the area also has a hotel
and a small water park: and even a Norwegian school.
Quesada is in the municipality of Rojales, but there is a
typical, small Spanish village called Rojales as well. On
the one side of town you find some caves, Las Cuevas del
Rodeo that have been inhabited until quite recently. It is
now possible to visit the site, which has been taken over
by artists, and the view of the village of Rojales is
excellent. Every October they celebrate "Patrona Rosario"
and the area around the caves are filled wit booths and
exhibits, and it is possible to see how people lived in
the caves before.
It is well worth the visit!
